53Tabs Reviews the Crysis Demo:

The Good:

• Great graphics. My system that I use for testing is a fairly nice and high end rig, yet fully maxed out the game ran like *****. With the graphics set on High, and a few on Medium it still looks great. Much better then most other pc games.
• Picking up stuff. It’s not perfect, but at least you actually hold the object unlike most games. Also there is a limit to the number of weapons you can hold on yourself at one time.
• Physics. Nothing we haven’t seen before now, but still, very pretty to behold. or take part in. Being able to shoot down most of the tree’s, destroy building, and cars adds a new level of game play that we haven’t really seen since the Red Faction days.
• The ambiance is great. Everything seems to be moving about and alive. Its the little things that make you feel like your really there. Turtles walking about, Birds on the beach and in the sky. Plants moving with you as you walk by add’s to the realism.

The bad:

• Still bad voice acting. Far Cry’s was horrible, but I’m not sure they could have done worse. At least I wasn’t cringing.
• Swapping nanosuit functions is going to take some getting used to. I foresee each one being mapped to a number in the very near future. Right now you have to hold down the “middle mouse button” then select one of the functions. This takes some time, and took me out of the experience.
• Foliage did not move out of the way like I hoped. Sure it moved, but only on one type of plant it seems. It still does more then most other games on the market.
• Vista problems. I had some issues actually getting the game to boot and stay booted with vista for the fist hour. At the start of the level I shot at a tree, and the game froze and stayed frozen. Most of the time the game would lock up after the EA logo. I re-installed the game and it did it only one last time, then I was smooth sailing. This is a Demo/Beta so issues do happen.

2gb of Corsair ram
ASUS m2n – sli deluxe motherboard
2 Geforce 8800 Gts 320mb running in SLI
Seagate 500 gb barracuda SATA drive

I was playing the game on High settings, a few on Medium. Also at 1680 by 1050 on my 22″ widescreen display.

After playing the demo:

Gameplay: 7
Features: 8 (the suit is fun!)
Graphics: 10
Replayability: 8

Overall I’d say this game is going to be worth a 9/10

Obviously I’m basing that on the demo, I can’t wait to play the final product once it comes out on Nov. 16. If your a fan of FPS’s this is something you might like to pay attention to. If your computer can handle it that is.
