Alienware’s Hangar18:HD media server now available

Alienware’s Hangar 18:HD 1080p media server — the rackmountable high end edition of the already impressive Hangar 18 — has officially launched. The silver beast promises up to 4TB of hard drive space, Blu-ray read/write, 1080p output, CableCard support and Dolby Digital 7.1 sounds. We suggest you don’t ask how much it costs, it just shows how woefully far we are away from being able to afford it. Those ready to jump into the high priced media server market can contact their local authorized reseller and loose themselves of the Benjamins that can so uselessly clog ones bank account.

700MHz C-block hits reserve price — open access is here

There was a brief, tense pause in the bidding this morning, but some anonymous giant telecom company (Google, perhaps?) has just pushed the price of the 700MHz C-block over the FCC’s reserve price of $4.6B — and the rest of us straight into the promised land of open access. Yep, January 31, 2008, Round 17 will be the day to remember — to think it was all a dream, we used to read Free Spectrum magazine.

Graffiti artist creates real-time, 3D paintings

Regular graffiti not doing it for you? Looking for something a little more up-to-date than spraycans and brick walls? Perhaps you should direct your attention to the artist known as DAIM and his recent project creating real-time graffiti in 3D. By utilizing a multi-camera scheme, DAIM is able to smear virtual paint across an empty gallery space using special handheld markers which are tracked by proprietary (we assume) software, calling the project “Tagged in Motion.” A picture says a thousand words, and in this case, a video says about a million — so hit the clip below and see the work in action.

Tesla Roadster gets wrecked by the feds… in the name of safety, of course

It’s shots like these of the Tesla Roadster getting pwned passing those federal safety tests that make vast government bureaucracy worth it, don’t you think? A full gallery over at AutoBlog.

HP bumps SSD to business class with new enterprise desktops

We wouldn’t normally get excited about two more random HP enterprise desktops, but you know how we love all things SSD, and if the HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop with SSD lights a fire in corporate IT departments, sales volumes may actually drive the price of SSD units down. So, uh, wow, check out this hot new HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop! Man, can you imagine how worker productivity would increase due to its speedy 2.3GHz Core 2 Duo processor? And how many more charts and folders you could fit on a desk thanks to its 46 percent smaller footprint? And let’s not even talk about the energy savings due to its compliance with the latest Energy Star guidelines — just TOO exciting. Truly the progressive, “with-it” large enterprise can’t afford NOT to purchase the $1,258 HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop with SSD in large enough volumes to affect the commodity pricing of SSD storage. No sir!

There is also a $579 HP Compaq dc5800 Business PC that has a regular hard drive, pictured after the break. It’s pretty much the same, but instead of productivity apps, it, uh, only runs MySpace. Yeah, that’s what we heard for real.
