Get this: an Estonian newspaper has teamed up with HP to find the country’s most unsightly laptop, and while the one pictured above hasn’t been deemed the victor (yet), it definitely looks to have been on the wrong end of a Russian Roulette accident. Apparently, the contestants have already been selected, and users can surf on over and place their vote for the single most repulsive machine in the mix. Thankfully, the two winners (audience “favorite” and editor’s choice) will each receive a brand new HP Pavilion dv2699 Special Edition lappie, which we fully expect will be treated just as poorly as the rig it’s replacing.

New MacBook Pro More Powerful, Has Multitouch Trackpad

More powerful versions of the MacBook Pro have been released today with up to 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn processors, and the MacBook Air’s trackpad, which allows for multi-touch gestures. The 2.5 and 2.6GHz models come with a new NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 RAM. The MacBook has also been upgraded, but no multitouch, probably to make a distinction between them and the MacBook Air. The good, the bad and the ugly, specs and price list below.
The good
• New Core 2 Duo versions across the board, which are supposed to be about 50% faster and more power efficient.
• New GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB.
• Multitouch pad on MacBook Pro.
• New LED option on top of the line 17″ screen.
The bad
• No multitouch or LED on MacBooks.
• Multitouch trackpad on MacBook Pro is smaller than Air.
• Apple Remote is now a $19 option
The Ugly
• Design lovers like me will have to wait for the next generation for a new chassis. Clearly, this is a minor bump as we wait for the real things.

Wall-E GameCube mod melts our hearts

This is the most heartwarming GameCube mod that I have ever seen. The Wall-E GameCube mod was inspired by the character in Disney’s upcoming film (titled Wall-E, of all things), and hours upon hours of TLC were clearly poured into this concoction. We know you’re eager for more angles of those eyes, so hit up the link below to get what you’re after.

Nvidia’s GeForce 9600 GT

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like the GPU industry finally figured out the fact that most consumers don’t want to blow a couple grand on an SLI setup, they just want to play Crysis debt-free. The new GeForce 9600 GT from NVIDIA is an answer to those prayers, offering solid performance ratings nearly in line with last-gen’s 8800 GT, at a completely lovable $199-and-under pricepoint. For now the top of the performance charts is still the 8800 Ultra – as NVIDIA will readily admit – but the 9600 GT is just the first of NVIDIA’s GeForce 9 series, and while it’s sure to be followed by bigger, badder and more expensive versions, it’s refreshing to see the 9600 hitting the market first.
Nvidia’s GeForce 9600 GT 512MB is a great performer, as long as it hits the right price point. If it doesn’t, there’s even more of a reason to buy the GeForce 8800 GT than there ever was before – it just goes to show how great that product really was for gamers. Thankfully, there are a few partners and retailers out there willing to charge what the card should ship at instead of what they’d like it to be in order to cash in on the sales rush at launch.
Simply put, don’t pay any more than $199 for a GeForce 9600 GT – regardless of whether it’s a standard card or one with a factory overclock.
