WD ships 7200RPM 2TB desktop hard drives: Caviar Black and RE4
Surely you recall Western Digital’s earlier 2TB effort, the Caviar Green — right? While said drive was just perfect for the casual storage junkie, performance gurus know that it left something to be desired on the speed front. Thankfully, WD is looking out for that crowd too with a new pair of 7200RPM 2TB drives: the Caviar Black (shown left) and RE4 (shown right). Both four-platter drives boast 64MB of cache, a dual stage actuator, 3Gbps SATA interface and an integrated dual processor. The latter also promises 1.2 million hours MTBF, Active Power Save, a multi-axis shock sensor and a few other high-end advancements designed for enterprise users seeking long-term reliability. The pain? Try $299 for the now-available 2TB Caviar Black, while the RE4 awaits an MSRP as it’s “being qualified by OEMs.” Check the full release just past the break.

Redmond’s looking for Windows 7 fans to throw launch parties from October 22-29, and if you’re chosen, you’ll get a free “Signature Edition” of Windows 7 Ultimate, free party favors, and a chance to win a PC valued at $750. Sure, you’ll have to suck up your pride and invite your friends to a party with a theme like “setting up with ease” or “family friendly fun,” but if you’re willing to throw a party where everyone is apparently supposed to sit around a laptop and then go out and buy something, well, we’re guessing you don’t have too much pride to begin with.

Video: crooks clean out New Jersey Apple store in 31 impressive seconds
And you thought making off with 39 iPods in 15 seconds was something to behold. After studying said crooks in Utah, a trained team of larcenists headed over to Apple’s Sagemore location in Marlton, New Jersey in order to one-up the duo by snagging even more goods in under a minute. As the surveillance shows, a single blunt object decimated the iconic glass doorway and enabled five hyped-up thieves to enter, snag 23 MacBook Pros, 14 iPhones and 9 iPod touches, and head for the hills — all in just 31 seconds. Look, we aren’t trying to glamorize crime or anything, but this is the stuff GTA heists are made of. Please, don’t try to replicate this at your nearest Apple store without wearing a head-mounted camcorder and hooking us up with the footage, of course.
